Planning On Bringing Home Another Dog?

Planning On Bringing Home Another Dog?

Dog lovers may never feel satisfied with one pawed member and may always long for companionship of another pooch. Canines are making our race a lot more responsible and loving with passing years. Their loyalty and unconditional love inspire pet owners to adopt more than one pooch. Are you feeling this urge too? However, it may not be easy to introduce a new dog before you straighten some things out. Before going for 2nd dog adoption take care of the following 3 important things:

1     Is your Dog#1 friendly and well behaved?

This is the most important thing to consider before you bring home a playmate for your dog. Introducing two unknown canines can be unpredictable and before you do, it is necessary to keep your current pooch’s behavior in check. If he is not friendly with stranger dogs then it may be better if you set some play dates with your friend’s dogs to observe his take on it and then go for it. Train him better if he is ill mannered and goes chasing around cats.

2    Breed selection is extremely important!

Analyze your current canine’s energy levels, behavior, and eating habits. Select your next pooch’s breed accordingly for a better compatibility between them. Choose a breed that balances your pooch in a way that they may not need to clash their egos for silly things. However if you are confident about your first dog’s behavior then you can add the same breed dog and make things easy on your side. Research is the key to a successful 2nd dog adoption, so be thorough with it.

3    Are you really ready for taking the responsibility?

New dog brings new responsibilities! The complete cycle that you went through with your first dog may be about to repeat. You should be aware of the work that adding a second canine may bring with him. Training sessions, extra time for grooming, extra expenditures, more vet visits, food bowls, water bowls, different beds, balancing their food tastes etc. are just some of the many things that you may need to ponder upon. Go ahead only if you are mentally prepared for this responsibility as canines crave for compassion and not our frustration.

So, have you made up your mind on getting another pet? Make sure you create a positive atmosphere for your new member before adding him to the clan. All the best!
